Video + Photo

I know I complain a lot about how there isn't a whole lot to shoot around these parts photography-wise, so I've been exploring the idea of not only doing photography but doing video as well. I've had the idea for awhile now. Most cameras today can shoot in High-definition, so it wouldn't be a problem at all to do both. My camera for what it's worth even shoots in 720p given the light is bright enough so it doesn't have to use a high ISO. I could practice doing both and have more subjects. There isn't too much a difference from my point of view, but we'll give it a shot and see how it goes, because I would like to expand my capabilities.

Out of boredom and trial, I made a video last night that was supposed to open for a spoken essay on censorship, but instead, I made it shorter and turned it into a campaign for Internet censorship. I know, "Why use radio to fight Internet censorship?" Basically, to prove a point that censorship is still censorship.

The explanation of why both 95.1 and 97.9 plays the same song just at different parts, is th implication that a lot of radio stations seem to play the same things every day.

Morning Boredom

There's not really much to say. I was bored.

And some tone mapping/HDR practice. I think these turned out nicely.

Julia Herbert Children's Benefit

I was sent out by Jon again for a charity event for abused children. When I got there, I had no idea what to even shoot. Hardly any people around. There was music, food, and later in the evening Slash surprised everyone with a visit. Even though he was just an impersonator, he was pretty good. I'm glad I didn't leave when I was about to. I wanted to either get my picture taken with him, or at the very least, his autograph, but he was in a hurry. And with everyone else swarming him, I didn't want to delay him any longer. At any rate, I snagged some personal photography shots for my greedy self. Channel 4 News Hailey Winslow was on the scene, and I was in a shot, even if it's just seven or so frames and I'm in the back. Kind of interesting, I guess. Even if I am standing awkwardly. After I decided I was done shooting and the event died down, I also decided to volunteer and help clean up the event site. Hard, but rewarding. Whoever said community service and volunteering was easy has clearly never volunteered.

So here's some of the better pictures, plus a few of the personal ones I nipped of Slash before he headed out. The rest, as with all event shoots, can be found here.

The Contrast Slider

While my internet was down for a few days I got bored and started going through a few old pictures. I picked out two that I thought had some good potential if I upped the contrast a bit, so I played with them and I must say I love the results. Expect me to be doing this a lot more often. I'm starting to see more potential in old photos I messed up with mistakes I didn't notice before.

The only problem is they might be too saturated now...

Truck Show

Not really my kind of show, but the main reason I was going was to meet up with Jon, but he couldn't make it so I decided since I was there, why not go ahead and shoot anyway? My batteries usually last a day and a half if I'm shooting at a steady speed like I was here. All twelve died in one day for some reason. I was going to get some crowd shots, but it didn't really kick up until it was pretty dark and my camera can't do night photography unless it's on a tripod, and then all the photos turn out blurry. Anyway, you can find the rest of the photos here.
